Born as the only son to parents Jennifer Anne and Joseph Buttigieg, Pete grew up in a supportive academic environment. His father was a literature professor and his mother a linguistic professor. Both worked at the University of Notre Dame, where they dedicated more than thirty years to education.

Education

Pete Buttigieg attended St. Joseph High School and graduated in 2000. He later enrolled at the Harvard Institute of Politics, where he studied Literature and History. While studying, he was elected president of the Student Advisory Committee, showcasing his leadership skills early on. He graduated in 2004 and, in 2007, received the prestigious Rhodes Scholarship, allowing him to attend Pembroke College, Oxford, where he earned a first-class honors degree in Economics, Politics, and Philosophy.

Career

Pete's career began in 2007 at McKinsey Company, a management consulting firm. That same year, he became a volunteer and supporter of Barack Obama’s presidential campaign, which inspired him to join the military. In 2009, he was appointed as a United States Navy Reserve Officer. His political career took off in 2011 when he was elected as the mayor of South Bend. He was deployed to Kabul, Afghanistan, in 2014, and was re-elected in 2015.
