An annular eclipse has been experienced in some parts of Nigeria today, September 1.
The National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) earlier announced that the eclipse will be experienced between the hours of 7.15am and 10.03am with slight variations in actual timing across the country, advising Nigerians not to panic.
An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon’s apparent diameter is smaller than the sun’s, blocking most of the sun’s light and causing the sun to look like an annulus (ring).

Nigerians who have already witnessed the eclipse have started sharing photos on social media. Many took to platforms like Twitter and Instagram to showcase their experiences, capturing moments of the celestial phenomenon as it unfolded. The excitement was palpable across the nation as people gathered in various locations to observe this unique event.
The eclipse was particularly visible at prominent locations like the Oshodi/Apapa expressway in Lagos, where many gathered to catch a glimpse of the ring-like sun. Observers in places like Lokoja and Port Harcourt also reported seeing the eclipse, with social media flooded by images showcasing the beauty of this astronomical event.
Unfortunately, not everyone was able to enjoy the spectacle. Some regions experienced overcast skies, leading to complaints of a 'rainclipse' instead. This phenomenon, where light showers obscured the view of the eclipse, left many disappointed as they missed the chance to witness the stunning natural display.
Did you experience the eclipse or did you miss it? Whether you were gazing in awe at the sky or caught in the rain, this cosmic event is a reminder of the beauty and mystery of our universe.
